Winter Wonderland- Fire & Ice Festival

Dec. 3rd 1-5PM

Brought to you by RWDSU Local 110 and the Carpenter’s Local 308

Bring the family downtown to Greene Square Park where you will be able to enjoy a snow-filled wonderland with activities for everyone! The Freedom Festival and the Cedar Rapids Downtown District have partnered up again and have created this new event which will surely be fun for everybody! They have brought in a “snow gun” from Salt Lake City, Utah and plan on going crazy with it and covering Greene Square Park with enough snow for the entire downtown!

Enter through our snowflake entrance on 3rd Ave. SE where you will walk into the snow-covered park and find many activities including miniature golf, a snowman building area, and an early 1900’s sleigh dressed up for a perfect family or group picture provided by The Gazette Photo Shop! KDAT will be onsite providing holiday music and will be broadcasting live during the event! There will be putters and golf balls on site, snowman building kits, holiday photo shoot, Boy Scouts will be selling popcorn, and The Early Bird will be selling hot chocolate, apple cider, and coffee to keep you warm so all you need to do is show up. All of these activities in the Winter Wonderland are FREE for everyone thanks to the generous support of our sponsors RWDSU Local 110 and the Carpenter’s Local 308.

To help continue a perfect day downtown, make sure to head over to Town Centre Plaza where there will be a fire juggler, an ice sculptor, and free horse-drawn carriage rides! Who can forget that just across the street from there is the Freedom Festival’s famous 7th Annual Chili Challenge in the Armstrong Food Court? Warm-up inside with a delicious bowl of chili and other food while high school music groups sing carols in the atrium for the Chili Challenge. With the official City Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:30pm, the Harmony Hawks will be singing Christmas carols and Playtime Poppy is the official guest of honor to light the tree. Can you imagine a better kickoff to the Holiday DeLight parade at 6:00pm? We couldn’t think of one either! There will definitely be no shortage of fun and activities this Saturday, December 3rd, in downtown Cedar Rapids!
