LTC Tyne was drafted as a private in 1972. He then enlsited and served 3 years active duty, serving in Florida and Germany. He then joined the Army Reserve and in 1975 joined ROTC in 1977. He was commissioned as a 2LT in 1979. While in the Reserves , LTC Tyne served in several hospital units, with assignments as company commander, mobilization officer and medical operations officer. LTC Tyne was activated during Desert Storm where he counseled returning soliders. As a Major he served in Columbia South America where he commanded several medical centers. He served 3 tours in South Korea with 19th Theater Support Command. LTC Tyne retired December 31, 2004. His service to veterans continued as Director of Linn County Veteran Affairs for 20 years.
