Our father served as a RED HORSE (Rapid Engineer Deployable, Heavy Operational Repair Squadron, Engineer) in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He is a proud veteran and instilled in his 4 children that our freedom is not free. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Unfortunately, the men and woman who served in Vietnam were not properly recognized on their return home. He is honored by this tribute.

Each year thousands of Eastern Iowa residents and visitors join together to celebrate our nation’s birthday by enjoying the many events and activities of the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival. More than 400,000 area residents and visitors attend the Freedom Festival each year. The Freedom Festival begins in June and culminates with the annual Celebration of Freedom Fireworks on July 4th.
