Cedar Rapids, IA (11/5/20) For many years, the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival has partnered with area senior living facilities to package and prepare-for-sale Freedom Festival buttons. While 2020 has been filled with unique challenges, the Freedom Festival is excited to launch the first ever Poinsettia Project, delivering poinsettia plants to seniors this Veterans Day—as a thank you for their support of the Freedom Festival.
Thanks to a generous donation by Presenting Festival Sponsor, Hy-Vee, the Festival was able to purchase 500 poinsettia plants to gift to residents of area senior facilities. Freedom Festival Board of Director Members and staff will deliver these live plants on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th, 2020.
“The Freedom Festival was founded by a group of local veterans, and it is important to give back to our veteran community, to thank them for their sacrifices and services to our country.” reflects Executive Director, Carissa Johnson. “We are grateful for our partnerships with area senior facilities and are excited to launch this new initiative in the community.”
Along with the poinsettias, and in partnership with Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy and HappyGram.org, the Freedom Festival will also be delivering Veterans Day cards created by students in Mrs. Wheeler’s 6th grade class at RCCBA.
In order to continue Project Poinsettia for years to come, a fundraiser has been created on the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival Facebook page along with a link to donate at https://www.freedomfestival.com/donations/. For each $10 donation made, we will be able to gift one poinsettia to an area senior during Veterans Day 2021.
