Dennis was born on March 7, 1959 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1977. After graduating, Dennis joined the U.S. Navy. Dennis has three sons, Craig, Shawn, and Denny (deceased). Dennis retired in March of 2026.
