1951 - 1953

Born on December 31, 1930 in Norway Iowa, Robert ‘Bob’ Holland served in the Korean War from 1951 thru 1953 achieving the rank of Sergeant. While home on leave, he married the love of his life, Thelma Burke, and together they raised their three children – Jeanne Butz, Brenda Bruyette, and Jeff Holland. Bob worked at Iowa Manufacturing Company before serving in the Army, and resumed work there when he returned home until his retirement. Thelma died in 2002 from ALS after being loving cared for at home by Bob. He still resides in his hometown of Norway, where he remains active in the American Legion and is a Color Bearer in their parades. He can be seen daily driving around Norway in his golf cart, planting and watering flowers uptown during the summer months and decorating the planters for Christmas. He takes pride in the fact that he is in great health and able to continue to live in the home where he and Thelma shared their lives together.
