William Gralund

1965 - 1967

William E. Gralund reported to duty to the U.S. Navy in 1965 and trained at Great Lakes Naval Center in north Chicago. After basic training he boared the USS Duluth and served as a Gunners Mate until his discharge in 1967. In 1965, USS Duluth (LPD-6) was an amphibious transport ship newly commissioned to the U.S. Naval Fleet.  USS Duluth was decommissioned at Naval Station San Diego on 28 September 2005. Items memorializing the USS Duluth are displayed at a museum in the namesake city of Duluth, Minnesota, including one of the ship's anchors.
