Leo Havran, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at 93 on January 16, 2020. Services were at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Inurnment in Czech National Cemetery. Military rites were conducted. Leo was born 9/ 17/1926, in Center Point, the son of Louie and Julie (Hasek) Havran. Leo graduated from Center Point High School. Leo was a welder at Iowa Manufacturing during the war effort at the age of 16. Leo was drafted into the US Army Air Corps, volunteered into the US Army Air Force where he was stationed predominantly in Japan. Corporal Havran served as a Teletype Operator with the 7th Air Services Group, part of the 5th US Army Air Force. Medals: World War II Victory Medal & Army of Occupation Medal Japan. After his military service, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Hahn Craig 7/21/1948 in Center Point. Leo worked as a welder and as a carpenter, until owning and operating his own construction/carpentry business in Cedar Rapids. Leo and his wife JoAnne enjoyed traveling, camping, square dancing, and were avid supporters of the Czech community & Czech Museum in Cedar Rapids. They were members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Leo is survived by his sons Craig Lee Havran, Kevin Randal (Cecilia Balot) Havran, and Clark Douglas (Jill) Havran; 3 grandchildren Joshua Havran, Mathew (Heidi) Havran, and Valerie Havran; 5 great-grandchildren Myles Havran, Josephine Havran, Lyric Havran, Iris Havran, & Willow Havran.
